A Bit of my History

I have always loved gardening and raising my own food (chickens mostly). My grandmother began attempting to teach me early about gardening and at the time I didn't really consider it as a skill to learn as much as something to do with Grandma; without whom I would not have become the person I am today.

I spent every summer, weekend, and school holiday I could out on the farm with my grandparents, the birds (chickens, ducks, geese, turkeys, and even guinea fowl), the goats, and the garden.  She would grow a lush, fruitful garden every year which included a wide array of veggies. We would spend hours out in the garden; my grandmother weeding and harvesting, and me just picking veggies and eating them.

DON'T WORRY!!!

My grandmother believed in all natural pest control and garden care so I did not ingest any pesticides or herbicides! Maybe just a little bit of dirt.. 😂 The worst experience I had in that childhood paradise of mine was when I once tried what I thought to be an innocent tiny bell pepper. Turned out it was a ghost pepper and I cried and cried once that spice hit me. I tried milk, water, bread, ice, anything I could think of!!! My grandfather knew, though, that what I actually needed was some delicious, creamy, chocolate. Instantly the terrible, relentless  burn was gone and I got some blissful relief.

What I learned from that pepper was to never eat anything without knowing exactly what it is (ALWAYS important -- especially in a survival situation) and always keep chocolate handy.😅
